
The recipient of an associate’s degree in drama and business from Alexander City Community College, John Vawter began his career as a development associate with Birmingham, Alabama’s PolarBek, where he focused on site selection and furniture installation in the development of seven student housing communities in the Southeastern United States. From 1990 to 2011, John Vawter served as executive vice president of Capstone Development Corp., where he continued to specialize in student housing. He completed more than 20 off-campus, and six on-campus, student housing communities through public and private partnerships during this time, and earned multiple awards from Student Housing Business magazine.
Since 2012, John Vawter has served as principal of Capstone Collegiate Communities LLC. In this role, he has completed an additional 15 off-campus communities with additional projects in development in Texas, Colorado, Michigan, and Connecticut, among other states.
In addition to student housing, Mr. Vawter has utilized his construction management experience to build a house for Habitat for Humanity as well as 10 cottages to be donated to wounded veterans through the LakeShore Foundation.
